Art on the railings

As part of Sherwood Rise Residents’ Association’s Stuff of Life festival, curator Kate Stoddart and artists Dominic Pote and Chris Lewis-Jones have organised a Parisian style exhibition of ‘art-on-the-railings’. The three drew up a list of all the local artists they’d like to invite and, to their delight, nearly all of them agreed to take part. The list of contributors includes some of Nottingham’s most well known artists, including, in addition to Pote and Lewis-Jones:

Simon Withers
Yelena Popova
Toby Jennings
Gurminder Sikand
Stephen Butler
Jackie Berridge
Nathan Beddowes tbc
Carol Hawthorne
Ele Pack
Kit Anderson
Marek Toblewski
Rachel Grigor
Doug and Ange
Kay van Bellen
Paul Matosic

Each artist will be allocated four meters of railings in which to exhibit their work. Most of the work will be for sale; some will be ‘site specific’ work designed to enhance the railings and will address the theme ‘stuff of life’. Yelena Povova, who has recently moved to Nottingham, will be producing, exhibiting and selling paintings as part of her performance (there will be a live art venue in Hedley Street).

‘I’m delighted that so many well known artists have agreed to take part in our event’ said Kate. ‘Their participation attests the creativity that makes Sherwood Rise the exciting place that it is!’

The event will take place at Hedley Villas Park, Sherwood Rise, Nottingham, on Saturday 11 October 2008, 12.00pm – 6.00pm.
