Deadline for views on the licence review of the Elm Tree – 7 October 2008

September 24, 2008 by srraeditor

Neighbours, it seems we’re running out of time! Any one wanting to put forward their views on the License Review of the Elm Tree pub needs to do so by the 7th of October.

The way to do this is by printing off a form from the Notts City web site. The link is below.

http://www.nottinghamcity.gov.uk/repres-form_of_representation_-_ips.pdf

That’s a pdf document. If the link doesn’t work then use this one. It also may give a bit more info.

Click here for secondry link to PDF document

I think it’s important to use the form in it’s origional format. The lady at Licensing I spoke to suggested any representation or views put forward on plain paper may not be taken into account! They don’t make it easy do they!!

Any questions just leave a comment or e-mail penguins@davidbowie.com

So e-mail your mates and get your teams together and prepare for George the Quiz Master to put you through your paces.

Thursday 25 September / Bar Deux, Clumber Street, Sherwood Rise / 9pm / £1 per person / Max 4 per team / Mystery prize by Rob at Bar Deux

Would be great to see you there.

Bad News on Sandon Street

September 17, 2008 by srraeditor

A neighbour popped round for a quick gin and to voice concern about this article that appeared on the BBC website. Have a look and leave your comments here. (Please note that this is the national BBC site, not the local one!) We are not happy bunnies.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/nottinghamshire/7620341.stm

This story published less than three hours later in the Evening Post links the attackers with the recent spate of car crime in the area.

How is Nottingham tackling its crime problem?

September 17, 2008 by srraeditor

A major public debate organised later this month will consider the challenge of crime in Nottingham, how the community is fighting back and what more needs to be done.

Organised by the Nottingham Speakers’ Corner Trust, the debate will feature experts, politicians, Notts Police and young people from across the city but the main contributors will be the Nottingham public themselves.

The debate will take place on Monday September 29th at 7.00pm at the Galleries of Justice in Nottingham. It will be the first major event organised by the Nottingham Speakers’ Corner initiative which was launched in February this year to promote public debate on important issues in the city.

A new Speakers’ Corner, the first in the UK for almost 150 years, is currently being developed in a pedestrianised area at the bottom of King Street and Queen Street in the city centre.

Some of the questions that will be addressed at the Nottingham Speakers’ Corner Trust debate will address include

How big is our crime problem – and is Nottingham’s reputation as a crime capital a fair reflection of life in the city?
How has Nottingham reduced its crime rate – what’s worked and what hasn’t and what’s next -  and have we got something to teach other towns and cities as well as lessons to learn ourselves?
How do we continue to reduce crime and the fear of crime and whose job is it anyway? What’s the police’s role, and the politicians’ and the courts’ – and what’s ours as citizens?

The debate will be chaired by Steven Fletcher, News Editor of the Nottingham Evening Post, and feature contributions from:

Vernon Coaker, Gedling MP and Home Office Minister with a special responsibility for crime reduction
Howard Roberts, Deputy Chief Constable, Notts Police
Cllr Jon Collins, leader of Nottingham City Council
Cllr David Mellen, portfolio holder for Children’s Services at Nottingham City Council
Judge Andrew Hamilton
Maggie Blyth, chair of the Nottingham Youth Justice Board
Roger Hopkins Burke, criminologist, Nottingham Trent University
Young people from Radford, Broxtowe Estate, Clifton, and Bulwell

Ticketing Arrangements

Entry to the debate is limited to 90 and is by ticket only on a first come first served basis.
Tickets are free and can be obtained in advance by contacting the Galleries of Justice on: 0115 952 0555 and quoting ‘Speakers Corner Event’. Two tickets available per caller.

Application for the review of the Elm Tree Inn licence – have your say

September 16, 2008 by srraeditor

The application for a review of the licence of the Elm Tree Inn has been submitted by Derek Moss from the “noise pollution”/environmental health department. The Council will now have to display a notice regarding this for two weeks, which contains details of what residents can do to help the licence be revoked. Please find a a copy of the notice below. I shall certainly be putting something to the authority in writing at the least, and the more people who pass on their experience of the pub in writing or in person at the hearing, the better, so get writing!
